Zone Times for Game 5 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final

Here are the puck locations/zone times for the fifth game of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final. As always, the percentages in the table represent how long the puck was in a specific zone relative to a player's ice time. For instance, for 49% of Milan Lucic's ice time, the puck was in the Chicago zone. Also, the percentages are rounded, so they may not add up to 100%.

Something a little different for Game 2 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Final: SPC Attempts

So for Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final between Boston and Chicago, I decided to try something different. Instead of recording zone times for the game, I recorded all shot, pass, and chip attempts. I did not record poke checks or redirections. The reason I choose to record these specific attempts was to try to get a better picture of which team had the puck.

The table below shows the difference between attempts for and attempts against for both teams as well as the difference in attempts when a player was on the ice.

The purpose of this blog is to present puck location/zone time for NHL games.  Puck location refers to the amount of time the puck spends in each of the three zones during one game, which I measure using the game clock shown on television.  Therefore the numbers I post will be approximate.  Additionally, I match up the puck location information with players' shift charts from nhl.com to determine the proportion of a player's ice where the puck is in a specific zone.
